For comfort and colour Cushions are a must have accessory for any home. Whether you want to add a splash of colour with fun or statement cushions, introduce a new shade to contrast with your existing décor or simply go mad and bury your sofa in an eclectic mix, cushions are the most cost effective way of creating change. But be warned if there is one thing guaranteed to cause debate between partners it’s cushions! I speak from observation!

When faced with our wonderful collection of cushions, a smiling customer will cheerfully announce that’s just what they’ve been looking for. To which their perplexed partner will usually ask the question….

“Do we really need any more cushions?” Or “Do we have room for any more cushions?”

Of course the answer if you haven’t guessed is “yes” and “yes”. Oh! do be assured us cushion lovers can always find room to squeeze in a late addition.

Now without being sexist I find the main offenders are often our menfolk, who when faced with a sofa full of cushions tend to push them aside with disdain or worse relegate them to the floor – such sacrilege!! Whilst us ladies seem to adopt the nesting instinct and surround ourselves with cushions (especially when we cosy up to watch an all time favourite film!)

So with this in mind I think it only fair that I should warn you and apologise in advance to any cushion phobic partners, because very soon our lovely array of cushions will be available to buy on line. And for those of you who share the nesting instinct then watch this space.

Furthermore, to help with your decision making if you choose a cushion (or two or three…) but you are not sure they will work with your colour scheme, then you can simply contact us for a fabric sample. The one thing we cannot help you with is your choice of film – that ones over to you!

Still trying to find inspiration for my blog it seemed a good idea to have some breakfast first, after all who can think on an empty tummy! After making my porridge the traditional way in a saucepan it is far to hot to eat. In truth it was not until I started eating porridge as an adult that I actually understood the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears for the first time!

Lets face it, who would be silly enough to leave their breakfast and go for a walk? Okay I confess whilst I don’t actually go for a walk I do check up on the plants in the greenhouse whilst my porridge is cooling!

Now lets suppose that Goldilocks slipped into my house whilst I was pottering in the garden – what would she think? We all know the story. I’m sure she would enjoy my porridge (with honey) but what about the bedrooms? Would my home meet the expectations of a discerning Goldilocks?

Personally I believe that a home is the one place where you can truly relax and be yourself. It should reflect both the personality and lifestyle of the persons or family who live there. Whilst it is always nice to receive compliments about your choice of décor, ultimately we should decorate our homes with furnishings, fabrics and colours that we find comfortable and will enjoy living with every day.

At Lovely Lane Interiors we are happy for customers to take their time when browsing in the shop or choosing fabrics for curtains, cushions or roman blinds. We actively encourage the use of fabric samples for viewing in your own home to ensure that you are happy with your choice. Making your house a home is important - After all ‘ Home is where your story begins’ …..

It’s not easy selecting a topic for a first blog. With so much choice, I find myself drinking tea, lazing in the conservatory mulling over ideas. I have to confess its the hurried teabag in a mug affair. The all too common mug of tea we are all familiar with. So why when we all know it tastes better from a teapot do we no longer make time for tea?

As a child I enjoyed teatime. It was a simple family pleasure. Teapot, tea cosy, bread and butter, home made cakes and preserves. Sitting together at the table with teacups (no mugs) and the all important tea strainer. My Grandma was a wonderful cook and baked often. Her plated apple pie was legendary, as were her jam tarts, with perfect pastry and home made jam, simply mouthwatering.

When we opened ‘ Lovely Lane Interiors’ I wanted to embrace the nostalgia of that time and chose to stock a range of beautiful cake plates and cake stands, together with pretty teapots, cups & saucers, table cloths, napkins and a variety of tea cosies.

It is of course the current trend for cup cakes that has brought about the revival of afternoon tea. Yet along side these wonderful and extravagant creations we should still make a space on the cake stand for the humble jam tart and the Victoria sandwich. So ask your Grandma for her favourite cake recipes, or swop recipes with friends and get baking

Arrange a tea party with friends or family and set the table with your best china. If you like the eclectic look or are on a budget then mix and match quality china with pieces found in charity shops – such as Ellies Haven (www.ellies-haven.org.uk/) or The Cornerstone, both only a 100yds from our shop in West Looe.

And if you want more ideas about afternoon tea, Country living magazine are currently running a ‘bring back tea time ‘ campaign. You can get all the info at www.allaboutyou.com/countryliving

This blogging is thirsty work. I think it’s time for another cup of tea – where is my teapot?
